Investing for Freedom with Mike AyalaMar 07, 2023
What's the next level of freedom that you're hoping to unlock? Our individual definitions of freedom are subjective and constantly evolving. I'm thrilled for this conversation because we have the privilege of hearing from Mike Ayala about his journey, how he dared to challenge conventions, and unapologetically forged his path towards financial freedom.
Mike's life experiences have led him to discover what he truly values: the freedom to prioritize his family, nurturing relationships, and the financial means to support that lifestyle. While many entrepreneurs might believe that this kind of freedom is unattainable, Mike and his wife Cara are living proof that with the right mindset and support, anyone can experience true freedom on their own terms.
As a self-described serial entrepreneur, Mike has been involved in over 2000 projects worth over a billion dollars. Nowadays, he helps busy professionals and business owners to attain authentic freedom and live their best lives. Mike is a real estate investor, founder, venture capitalist, and, above all, a devoted father and husband. There's so much to be gained from his wealth of experience!
"On the other side of our fears is really where we accomplish what it is actually that we want in life." - Mike Ayala
In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. How early mentorship helped Mike Ayala achieve success.
2. The power of setting intentions and how it can snowball into achieving meaningful life goals.
3. The importance of pig-headed discipline and outsourcing in business growth.
What you'll hear in this episode:
- If your business isn’t helping you achieve your personal goals, you just bought yourself a job.
- The key to unlocking the real estate market.
- What are some of the pieces of advice that you give on that theme of investing for free?
Here are some brief snippets from this episode:
What motivated you to start a business at 24? What was your reason for deciding to go that route as opposed to, let's say, corporate or another type of job? It was scary quitting a job of security and launching our own business, but, man, I'm so glad we did it.
I realized that my business partner and I did not have a values alignment. She decided to sell the company or he bought me out or I bought him out. Most entrepreneurs don't start their business with the end in mind. So there's all these messy exits.
When Karen and I got married, she knew that she wanted to be a stay at home mom. Even though she was working, we would put her money aside so that we didn't. Let's unravel the next layer of investing for freedom, which is probably the real estate era of Mike.
There's two types of mentors. There's the paid mentor and then there's the mentor that just wants to help you. The key to finding mentors is getting really clear on what it is that you need in life. And then being transparent and authentic and vulnerable and asking.
Figure out what are your one, two, three things that only you can do in your business. Then try to figure out how to outsource everything else. He says not very many entrepreneurs think about investing for freedom. There's really no financial excuse.
I'm in a season of so what does freedom look like? The last 23 years has really been about raising children and being present and scaling businesses. For me right now, it's still being able to do whatever it is that I want.
