We are hiring a motivated Accounting Specialist to join our team at Keep What You Earn Co. We are a boutique fractional CFO practice serving a small group of a clients on a deeper level year-round. We do not market our services as bookkeeping and accounting, but these are necessary elements for success in developing forecasts and other tools for clients to plan for their future. This role will own the books and financial statements we use and deliver to clients.
This role is perfect for someone who wants to have better work-lifestyle arrangements but still stay in the accounting field and apply their skills toward helping small business owners succeed. This is also great for a CPA candidate looking for hours working under the supervision of a CPA. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of related experience and QBO expertise is a MUST.
Our entire team is virtual and team members are located in various U.S. states. Willingness to interact and meet virtually is a must. The majority of the team is located in the Eastern and Central time zones. Proximity to these will be preferred. We will not consider virtual outsourcing or offshoring companies for this position. We are looking for USA-based talent and to build an employee relationship.
This role reports to the Financial Reporting & Compliance Manager with frequent interaction with the President/Founder, Shannon. Compensation is salary-based with the availability for spot bonuses for particularly complex projects or tight deadlines. In short - if you perform miracles, you get paid like you do. An ideal candidate is eager to learn and grow, with curiosity and the ability to ask lots of questions and a desire to work in a collaborative environment. We highly value attention to detail and awareness of sensitivity of information, especially because we are entrusted with sensitive client data. This role is seldom client-facing if at all. We use AI notetakers to enable this person to review key notes and clips from calls so they can remain uninterrupted in their workflow and still remain up to speed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Weekly transaction allocation for all clients in QBO
-
Monthly bank and credit card reconciliation for all clients

Management of the “Client to Clarify” transactions process
-
Reconciliation of key areas like inventory, sales tax payable, and vehicle accounting

Fixed asset register maintenance
-
Initial review of core financial statements
-
Attendance and active engaged presence on client meetings when needed
-
Daily management of tasks in Asana, updating due dates and active project management
-
Daily client and team correspondence in Slack
-
Weekly internal meetings to discuss client objectives
-
Data collection for deep dives
-
Assistance with other key client deliverables
-
Occasional payroll support and interfacing with Gusto reps
-
Journal entries for asset transactions and accruals (most clients cash basis)

1099 reporting (we have a W-9 collection process with quarterly reviews)
You will be seen as a valued team member for this client, not as someone working for an accounting firm. It is very important to understand this distinction. We work with the client to help accomplish their goals and not "for" them.
