In this special episode of "Keep What You Earn," we're replaying Shannon's recent appearance on the "Earn & Invest" podcast hosted by Jordan Grumet. Shannon shared her entrepreneurial journey, offering invaluable advice to those on the brink of starting their own ventures.

New entrepreneurs, Shannon noted, often undervalue themselves due to a lack of confidence, leading to undercharging for their services. To combat this, she recommends starting by doing as many reps as possible at low or no cost. This helps build confidence and experience, allowing you to gradually increase your pricing. “Don’t start with high fees right away,” she advised. “Let your pricing and offerings evolve with your experience.”

Entrepreneurship can be isolating compared to the structured feedback and camaraderie found in corporate environments. Shannon spoke about the loneliness and the need for self-discipline and personal benchmarks. “It’s about showing up for yourself every single day, even when there’s no one else to see it,” she stressed.

For those stuck in corporate jobs, Shannon suggests building a side business while maintaining your 9-to-5. This approach provides financial stability while allowing you to cultivate your passion project. Shannon’s journey with Fitnancial Solutions began this way, working during her mornings, late nights, and any available free time.

Transitioning from a corporate job to full-time entrepreneurship brought significant personal and professional changes for Shannon. She highlighted how structuring her day around her energy levels and prioritizing well-being over income stability immensely benefited her. Personal experiences, such as her father's passing and her husband’s chronic back pain, underscored the importance of pursuing a fulfilling career.

Looking ahead, Shannon is passionate about education and plans to volunteer more with Junior Achievement to teach entrepreneurship to the youth. She has also created a "Small Business Starter Kit" to help alleviate the intimidation new business owners face, equipping them with essential tools like a financial starter course, tax deduction guide, and cash flow forecasting mini-course.

Shannon’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion, patience, and a clear plan. If you’re contemplating leaving your corporate job or turning your side hustle into your main gig, start small, build experience, and never undervalue yourself. With the right mindset and strategy, navigating the entrepreneurial waters can be both confident and successful.
